    McLaren Park

This is an amazing park for dogs and humans alike! It’s a little far for most of us to travel who live in the heart of the city, but it’s worth the trek. There are picnic areas, paved walkways, wooded hiking paths, lakes, flowers, amazing views of the city, and a large off-leash dog area.

    Precita Park

Although the sign says “No dogs off leash”, locals seem to know that it’s ok to let your pup run free and blow off some steam. There is plenty of open space for him to chase his doggy friends, and it’s a peaceful spot for owners to hang out or strike up a conversation with […]

    Redwood Regional Park

Just outside of San Francisco, this East Bay park is well worth the trip. It features miles of hiking trails through beautiful redwood forests where dogs are allowed off-leash. There are dog drinking fountains at the parking area, which is a nice touch, but not many trash cans throughout the park, so be prepared to […]

    Fort Funston

This is a beautiful park near the ocean with a network of trails that’s great for hiking — especially with your pup, since off-leash walking is allowed. There are beautiful views of the city from the top, and down on the beach level, your dog will love romping around on the sand with other furry friends that […]

    Alamo Square

This famous park offers the iconic view over the Painted Ladies, which is especially beautiful at sunset. The west half of the park is off-leash, so your dog can enjoy some exercise while you enjoy the more peaceful and less traveled half of the park.

    Point Isabel

Locals love this hidden gem, which is one of the largest public off-leash dog parks in the nation (see the website for specific rules for dogs). It offers 23 landscaped acres, with beautiful views of the Golden Gate Bridge.

    Patricia's Green

This is a true urban park, situated in the heart of Hayes Valley between two major streets. It’s a nice place to hang out on a sunny day with an ice cream from Smitten or coffee from Blue Bottle, while letting your pup run around or use the bathroom.

    SoMa West Dog Play Area

This is a great city dog park, located right under the 101 ramp, on the corner of Valencia and Duboce. It’s made of turf, so it’s perfect in the wet winter months, when the grass parks turn into giant muddy playgrounds (fun for dogs, not fun for humans who like their white rugs to stay that way). There […]

Nice little park with an off-leash dog area. Amazing views of the city, and one of the best spots to watch the sunset!
